Having a combination of combat ability and building skill is necessary when it comes to tackling rough terrain in combat situations. Bridge Crewmembers supervise or serve as a member of a squad, section or platoon. They provide conventional and powered bridge and rafting support for wet and dry gap crossing operations.
21C1O - Skill Level One
Bridge Erection Boat Operator: Boat operator that is assigned to a Corps level multi-role bridge company: responsible for maintenance, operation, and accountability of one M1977 common bridge transporter, one improved boat cradle, and one MKII bridge erection boat. Operates the MKII during bridging operations. Also depending on where you are stationed boat operators are utilized as a recovery team for lost personnel and equipment during floods.
Vehicle Driver: Operate all wheel vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways for support of combat operations. Manage entrucking and detrucking of personnel being transported. Oversees and checks proper loading and unloading of cargo on vehicles and trailers. Secure cargo against inclement weather, pilferage and damage. Operate vehicle component material handling equipment (MHE), as required. Employs land navigation techniques. Must be knowledgeable with the operation of radios and weapons when they are mounted on the vehicle. Perform vehicle self‑recovery and field expedients to include towing vehicles. Corrects or reports all vehicle deficiencies; supports mechanics where necessary. Prepare vehicle for movement/shipment by air, rail, or vessel.

They provide conventional and powered bridge and rafting support for wet and dry gap crossing operations. Performs duties in preceding skill level. Supervises lower grade soldiers and provides technical guidance in the accomplishment of their mission. Directs construction of fighting positions and wire entanglements. Determines limiting slopes, curves, stream velocities, and gap width. Conducts engineer reconnaissance. Directs crew in the assembly and maintenance of military fixed and float bridges. Operates an Engineer Regulating Point (ERP). Directs crew in the installation of fixed bridge anchorage, shore guys, kedge anchorage system and the overhead anchorage systems. Operates and or supervises the use of bridge erection boats. Directs the placement of demolition and determines safe distance and clears demolition misfires.

Collects data and calculates the demolition requirement for explosives and related materials. Conducts road, tunnel, ford, river, ferry and bridge reconnaissance. Directs the off‑loading and assembly of float and fixed bridges. Performs float and fixed bridge site layout. Supervises installation of an overhead cable anchorage system, kedge anchorage system, shore guys and fixed bridge anchorage. Supervises maintenance of fixed and float bridges. Directs rafting operations. Directs fixed and float bridge construction. Supervise preparation of ribbon bridge equipment for air transport. Determines requirements for Engineer Equipment Park (EEP) and Engineer Regulating Point (ERP). Directs construction of bunkers, shelters and fortifications. Determines logistical requirements for wire entanglements. Operates the chest pack for the Druge Support Bridge (DSB).
Demolition Sergeant: Serves as the NCOIC for the storage, training and emplacement of all demolition charges. Prepares and maintains target folders for bridges and other possible obstacles or targets of opportunity within the Multi Role Bridge Company’s (MRBC) area of responsibility.
Section Leader: Section sergeant for a multi-role bridge company is responsible for conducting river crossing and fixed bridge operations; directs and inspects the maintenance of Common bridge transporters, M15 bridge adapter pallets, M1076 PLS trailers, Interior bays, Ramp Bays, Twelve Bay double story MGB components and all associated tools required to install/maintain float and fixed bridges.

Assistant Operations Sergeant: Assists the Operations Sergeant in organizing, and coordinating the Company’s engineer operations. The Assistant Operations Sergeant helps to track and report the current and future employment of engineers. He assists the Executive Officer in battle tracking and maintains the current operational status of the unit.
Platoon Sergeant: The Platoon Sergeant is the primary assistant and advisor to the platoon leader, with the responsibility of training and caring for soldiers. The platoon sergeant helps the commander to train the platoon leader and in that regard has an enormous effect on how that young officer perceives NCOs for the rest of his career. The platoon sergeant takes charge of the platoon in the absence of the platoon leader. As the lowest level senior NCO involved in the company METL, platoon sergeants teach collective and individual tasks to soldiers in their squads, crews or equivalent small units.
Reconnaissance Sergeant: The Recon Sergeant is responsible for tracking route status, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found or detonated, and engineer assets on the battlefield. Recon sergeants are responsible for locating and reporting enemy engineer obstacles and identifying bypasses. Additionally, they are experts in route and engineer reconnaissance, this includes gathering critical data about bridges, fording sites, and assets along routes that would be useful in engineer missions.
