YEONCHEON, South Korea (May 31, 2013) -- U.S. and South Korean forces practiced bridging operations during a river crossing exercise in this border town close to the Korean Demilitarized Zone, May 30.
Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. John D. Johnson was on hand as Republic of Korea Army engineers connected a floating bridge across the Imjin River, more than 35 miles north of Seoul.
Johnson walked across the bridge and thanked the troops involved in the exercise. Since assuming command in November 2010, Johnson has visited Army units across the Korean Peninsula.
The ROK Army's 6th Engineer Brigade assembled the floating bridge that was strong enough to transport the 2-9th Infantry's M1A2 Abrahams Main Battle Tanks.
A U.S. Army combined arms battalion, the 2-9th Infantry is part of the 2nd Infantry Division's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team.
